Wednesday Random Song: Macklemore, “Same Love”

Rapper Macklemore is best known for his comical music video “Thrift Shop”, which went viral this year. But it turns out his awesomeness goes way beyond an ode to my favorite pastime. His song “Same Love” provides the soundtrack for this heartwarming 7-minute movie in support of gay marriage.

And he wears your granddad’s clothes.

(Hat tip to blogger Dannika Nash. Read her post about why young Christians are leaving the church to stand on the side of love.)

I recently did a Macklemore post on my blog as well 😉 He has another song called Neon Cathedral. I found it a very challenging song for the church. If you want to check it out here is the link. http://grapplerschurch.blogspot.com/2013/02/thrift-shop-theology-macklemore-style.html Great blog!

Thanks for sharing this. I agree with your post. As I see it, many people turn to addictions to numb traumatic feelings, and the church needs to do more to teach them how to live with those feelings. This would include meditation, embodied prayer practices, and a safe community environment where feelings can arise and not be judged. Build trust before lecturing about sins. Those are my suggestions anyhow. What would you do to make the church more helpful to addicts?
